Bridging a gap with job scheme
Through Worklink, HR professionals are volunteering to mentor jobseekers and assist employers in their local area, writes Gareth Naughton.
Last Friday saw the publication of the Government's 'Action Plan for Jobs 2013', which contained details of 333 new financial incentives and supports that aim to stimulate job creation and aid employers. One such initiative is the JobsPlus scheme, under which employers will be paid approximately 25% of the cost of a worker for two years if they recruit a long-term unem
We are running an event for employers and business people in the North East Region. This forum will provide information and advice regarding the financial and practical supports available to employers and small enterprise. The event takes place on the 5th March 2013, in the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Dundalk and is supported by the Louth County Enterprise Board and the Louth Local Authorities Business Support Unit.
The Minister for Social Protection, Joan Burton, T.D. today (Monday, 7th January 2013) welcomed the expansion of Worklink, an employment support network which assists employers in providing employment and work placement opportunities to jobseekers.
Launched in December 2012 Momentum will support the provision of free education and training projects to allow 6,500 jobseekers (who are unemployed for 12 months or more) to gain skills and to access work opportunities in identified growing sectors.

Work is being undertaken to finalise the PlusOne initiative, which is intended to encourage employers to hire individuals that are long-term unemployed. It is envisaged that this new incentive will replace the Revenue Job Assist and the Employer PRSI Incentive schemes. Minister Burton announced an extra 10,000 work activation places for social welfare customers next year at a cost €11 million:
A new €500,000 start-up fund for female entrepreneurs has been launched by Enterprise Ireland.
Details of the Competitive Start Fund for Female Entrepreneurs, which is aimed at stimulating high potential female-led business start-ups, were announced today by Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Mr Richard Bruton TD.

Worklink is a new and innovative response from the business and HR community to Ireland’s jobs crisis. It is a volunteer led, employment support organisation that has been formed to assist unemployed jobseekers to successfully transition into full employment.

A general breakdown of some of the 6000 Springboard places offered to jobseekers for Springboard 2012 was announced yesterday. The places are distributed across 220 different programmes including ICT, medical devices, the green economy, pharmaceuticals, food and beverages, and international financial services, siix sigma, lean and quality systems, international selling, languages, business start-up and entrepreneurship skills. There are 36 institutes of technology, universities and private higher education colleges across Ireland involved.
Worklink has just discovered a great resource, Gradireland TV. There are some great new videos from the gradireland Summer Fair. Presentations on accessing the hidden jobs market, CVs and applications and using social networks to get hired – presented by leading careers experts Sinead English, Rowan Manahan and Paul Mullan.
